The challenge

What made this difficult.

    Equipment foundation setting-out tolerances were tighter than standard civil practice.

  • 02

    The electrical contractor's programme required foundations released in a non-sequential order.

  • 03

    The site had a high water table affecting cable basement construction.

The engineering solution

What we did about it.

  • 01

    Foundation setting-out was carried out with total station control and independently verified before every pour, with records issued to the electrical contractor at handover.

  • 02

    The construction sequence was re-planned around the electrical contractor's installation order rather than civil convenience.

  • 03

    The cable basement was constructed with a waterproof concrete design and external tanking, tested before backfill.

  • 04

    A joint weekly interface meeting kept foundation release dates and installation dates on a single tracked list.
