Scope of work

The challenge

What made this difficult.

  • 01

    The site is inaccessible for roughly ten weeks each monsoon, compressing the productive season.

  • 02

    Penstock alignment crosses a slope with historic instability, requiring foundation redesign after ground investigation.

  • 03

    Cement and reinforcement delivery is limited by road load restrictions on the access route.

The engineering solution

What we did about it.

  • 01

    A seasonal programme front-loads concrete-intensive activities into the dry window, with monsoon reserved for tunnel-portal support, workshop and fabrication work.

  • 02

    Anchor block foundations were relocated and deepened following supplementary investigation, with slope drainage and instrumentation installed before construction.

  • 03

    On-site batching with an accredited field laboratory removed dependence on external concrete supply.

  • 04

    Material call-off is planned against the road restriction, with a staging yard at the last accessible point and a rolling four-week stock buffer.

  • Spoil placed in designed, drained and revegetated disposal areas rather than side-cast
  • Sediment traps and settlement ponds on all discharge points to the river
  • Camp waste segregation with recyclables backhauled on returning supply vehicles
  • Local employment for access, gabion and revegetation works, with skills training provided
